If you're skating or cycling, come to a full stop. These crossings can be dangerous. There is a small parking area at the OPRT crossing on Harlem Avenue. This is not an OPRT access parking lot. The area along the south edge of the trail carries a number of pipelines across northern Illinois. This area is an access point for the pipeline company vehicles. |

Garden RailroadingLook for the "Timber Ridge & Old Plank Trail R.R." on the south side of the trail between Harlem and Ridgeland. This 16 by 30 foot outdoor garden railroad, built and operated by Larry Jankowski includes tunnels, timber trestles, a station, a row of main street stores, and a farm. The landscaping is all natural with a variety of live dwarf pine and elm trees, mosses, and other plant materials. The brass track is ballasted with granite chips while the hills were constructed with a variety of gravels and rocks. |

It takes a bit of watering, pruning, de-cobwebbing, and general maintainence to keep the layout in tip-top condition.
If you see owner Larry Jankowski working on the garden train layout, feel free to stop and say hello. Larry says that he's had up to 70 visitors in one day stop to see the railroad. He's also hosted garden clubs and provided a very interesting food and water stop for the Cancer Society Bike-a-thon.
