Proper look for OPRT web pages

1. The proper look

Most of the pages on this web site have a light tan, textured background (except for the map pages). Text is black with headlines in dark browns and greens.

If the pages don't appear like the thumbnail image to the left or if they appear on white backgrounds with hard to read text then you need to reset your browsers PREFERENCES or OPTIONS (see point 4 or 5).

Cartoon or garish color

2. Garish color pictures

If the graphics or pictures appear in cartoonish or garish colors you might need to set your monitor display properties for more colors.

In Windows, right-click on the desktop and select PROPERTIES from the pop up menu. Click on the SETTINGS tab and adjust the COLORS setting to more than 16 or 256. Use care, some older computers do not support more than 256 colors (see point 6).

Words are cut off

3. Text is cut off

This website is best viewed on monitors with at least 1024 by 768 pixel resolution. Any less resolution causes excessive horizontal scrolling.

In Windows you can check your monitor resolution by right-clicking on the desktop and then selecting PROPERTIES. When the dialog box appears click the SETTINGS tab and check the SCREEN SETTING. On some computers you can increase the number of pixels (see point 6).

Setting Netscape Preferences

4. Netscape Preferences

Netscape browser settings can affect how you see web pages. If you have checked the over ride box in Netscape it displays pages with your color settings.

Check your preferences by clicking on EDIT in the top drop-down menus. Then select PREFERENCES.

Try unchecking the box by "Always use my colors, overriding document."

 Setting Microsoft Internet Explorer

5. Microsoft Explorer

You can change the look of web documents in Microsoft Explorer. Click on TOOLS in the top drop-down menus and select INTERNET OPTIONS. The COLORS and ACCESSIBILITY options might need to be changed.

Recent Microsoft browsers are not set up to Internet standards in that they "turn-off" the cascading style sheet (CSS) standard.

 Setting your display properties
